Biography

Michelangelo Cerquozzi (1602–1660) was an Italian Baroque painter of the Roman school, known for lively scenes of everyday life, markets, soldiers, and battle subjects. Unlike the intense drama of Caravaggio, Cerquozzi painted more natural and human moments, bringing Baroque art closer to daily reality.

His works feature warm colors, softer lighting, and detailed observation of people, clothing, and movement. Cerquozzi became one of the main painters of genre scenes in Baroque Rome, focusing on ordinary characters rather than religious theatrical compositions.

What defines Michelangelo Cerquozzi’s style

  • Warm earthy Baroque palette
  • Natural light instead of extreme chiaroscuro
  • Scenes of soldiers, markets, and daily life
  • Detailed textures and realistic figures

At ByMuseum, Michelangelo Cerquozzi oil painting reproductions are hand-painted on canvas by skilled artists, carefully recreating the warmth, brushwork, and historical atmosphere of his Baroque masterpieces.
