Suprematism Art Movement & Paintings

Suprematism was a radical abstract art movement developed in Russia in the early 20th century, centered on the belief that pure artistic feeling could be expressed through basic geometric forms. Instead of depicting objects, landscapes, or people, Suprematist artists used simple shapes such as squares, circles, rectangles, and crosses arranged in dynamic compositions.

The movement was founded by Kazimir Malevich, whose groundbreaking works rejected traditional representation in favor of pure abstraction. In Suprematist paintings, color and geometry become the primary language of expression. Floating forms, stark contrasts, and minimal compositions create a sense of movement, balance, and spiritual intensity.

Suprematism marked a decisive break from centuries of representational painting. By reducing art to its most essential elements—form, color, and spatial tension—the movement sought to express a new artistic freedom aligned with the modern age.
