We Respect Copyright Laws
ByMuseum is committed to intellectual property rights. All paintings we reproduce are either in the public domain or properly licensed.
All artworks on our site are either licensed or in the public domain because their copyright has expired. This applies to the United States, Canada, the European Union, and all countries with a copyright term of life of the author plus 70 years. If you believe any image on our site is under copyright protection, please contact us immediately.
Public Domain Artworks
ByMuseum specializes exclusively in hand-painted reproductions of masterpieces that are in the public domain. A work enters the public domain when its copyright has expired — typically 70 years after the death of the artist.
This means all the works we reproduce — from Monet and Vermeer to Rembrandt and Da Vinci — are free for reproduction worldwide under applicable copyright law.
Legal reference: Faithful reproductions of two-dimensional original works cannot attract copyright in the U.S., according to the ruling in Bridgeman Art Library vs. Corel Corp.
Reporting a Copyright Concern
Our database contains a large collection of artworks. While we make every effort to ensure all works are in the public domain, if you find any image that you believe to be under copyright protection, we want to hear from you immediately.
- Contact us at [email protected] with the subject line "Copyright Concern"
- Include the URL of the page where the image appears
- Provide evidence of copyright ownership or active protection
- Any copyrighted image found on our site is immediately removed upon verification
ByMuseum's Own Content
While the original artworks we reproduce are in the public domain, ByMuseum's own content — including our photography, product images, website design, text, and branding — is protected by copyright.
- You may not reproduce or distribute ByMuseum's product photos without written permission
- Our logo, brand name, and visual identity are trademarked
- Paintings sold by ByMuseum are for personal, non-commercial use unless otherwise agreed
- Commercial use of purchased paintings requires a separate written agreement
Custom Orders & Copyright
For clients placing custom orders using their own photos or images, the following conditions apply:
- You must certify that you have the right to reproduce the image provided
- The image must be in the public domain or you must hold the necessary permissions
- You grant ByMuseum the right to reproduce the image solely for fulfilling your order
- Responsibility for copyright compliance remains with the customer
- ByMuseum paintings differ from originals in size, signature, and brushstroke — they are not photographic reproductions
