Description
Coast Scene by John Frederick Kensett presents a low, pale shoreline beneath a very broad open sky. The land crosses the lower part of the image, its uneven edge marked by rocks, scrub, and patches of muted brown and green. A thin line of water and distant shore appears near the horizon, leaving most of the composition open. The close foreground is rougher and more varied than the far distance, where the colors become lighter and flatter. Coast Scene by John Frederick Kensett is reproduced by hand in oil on canvas.
