Famous Venus Paintings
Recreated by Hand
Venus, the Roman goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite to the Greeks, is the woman painters returned to more than any other. She rises from the sea on a shell, looks into a mirror held by Cupid, sleeps in a landscape, and falls in love with Mars and with the mortal Adonis. This collection gathers famous Venus paintings by Botticelli, Titian, Velázquez, Giorgione, Rubens, Cabanel, Boucher and Veronese. Every painting is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction on real canvas, never a print.
The Most Famous Venus Paintings
Botticelli's goddess on her shell, Titian's Venus of Urbino looking straight at us, Velázquez's Venus with her back turned: these are among the most famous paintings in the world.
Venus at Her Mirror
The goddess of beauty looks at her own reflection, usually in a mirror held up by Cupid. Titian, Rubens and Boucher made the scene a showpiece of skin, silk and light.
Venus and Adonis
Venus fell in love with Adonis, a beautiful young hunter, and begged him not to go hunting. He went anyway and was killed by a wild boar. Painters show the moment she tries to hold him back.
Love Conquers War
Venus was married to Vulcan but loved Mars, the god of war. Painters turned the affair into a message: love disarms violence, as Mars sleeps or lays down his armour.

Her son Cupid, with his bow and arrows, is never far away. Here Venus disarms him, blindfolds him and consoles him, or sleeps undisturbed in a quiet landscape.
