The Tree Collection

Famous Tree Paintings
Recreated by Hand

Painters have always loved trees. A single oak can carry the weight of a whole life, a row of poplars can turn a field into music, and a branch of almond blossom can mean new hope. This collection gathers famous tree paintings by Van Gogh, Klimt, Monet, Caspar David Friedrich, Ivan Shishkin, Hobbema and others, from orchards in blossom and dark cypresses to deep forests, lonely old trunks and long avenues. Every painting here is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction on real canvas, never a print, in the size that suits your wall.

The Most Famous Tree Paintings

A handful of trees have become some of the best-known images in art: Van Gogh's almond branch against a blue sky, Klimt's shimmering beech wood, Monet's tall poplars and the long avenue Hobbema painted at Middelharnis.

02

Orchards and Trees in Blossom

Spring blossom is the shortest season in nature, and painters raced to catch it. Van Gogh painted fourteen orchards in a few weeks in Arles in 1888; Japanese printmakers turned plum and cherry branches into poetry.

03

Cypresses, Olive Trees and Pines of the South

In Provence Van Gogh found trees that seemed to move like flames. He called the cypress as beautiful in line and proportion as an Egyptian obelisk, and painted olive groves again and again in every light.

04

Into the Forest

The forest painters wanted you to step inside: Shishkin's Russian pines and oaks, Courbet's deer in the shade, Klimt's dense pine wood, Rousseau's dreamlike jungle edge, sunlight falling through leaves.

05

Portraits of Single Trees

Some painters treated one tree like a person, with a character and a history. Friedrich's gnarled oaks, Van Gogh's ancient yew and wind-beaten tree, and Levitan's oak stand alone against the sky.

06

Avenues, Poplars and Willows

Planted in rows along roads and rivers, trees give a landscape rhythm. Monet painted the same line of poplars more than twenty times; Van Gogh walked the plane-tree avenues of Arles and the pollard willows of Holland.

Choosing a Tree Painting

A tall cypress, a wide orchard or a deep forest: choose the shape and mood that suits your wall.

I.

Painted by hand

A trained painter rebuilds the image in oils, with visible brushwork, layered colour and the small details that make the original come alive. These are not canvas prints.

II.

The whole painting, never cropped

Every reproduction keeps the full composition at its true proportions. Choose a size that suits your wall and the painting is scaled, never cut or stretched.

III.

FAQ

Questions About Tree Paintings

Useful answers before you choose a hand-painted reproduction.

01.

What is the most famous painting of a tree?

Van Gogh's Almond Blossom (1890), painted for his newborn nephew, is probably the most famous, alongside Klimt's Tree of Life, Monet's Poplars and Hobbema's The Avenue at Middelharnis.

02.

Which artists painted trees the most?

Ivan Shishkin built his whole career on forests, Van Gogh painted cypresses, olive groves and orchards obsessively in Provence, and Monet returned to poplars and willows in series.

03.

Are these tree paintings prints?

No. Every ByMuseum reproduction is painted by hand in oil on canvas, with real brushwork and texture.

04.

Which tree painting suits a living room?

Large blossom and forest scenes open up a wall and bring in light; single-tree paintings and cypresses work well in narrower spaces or as a pair.

05.

Can I order a custom size?

Yes. Choose a size on the artwork page or contact ByMuseum for a custom dimension; the composition is never cropped or stretched.
