Description
Jatayu spreads his wings before Ravana, who raises a sword while carrying Sita away. She turns from the violence with her hands near her face. Jewellery, richly coloured fabric and falling feathers give the aerial struggle a strong sense of movement.
This hand-painted oil-on-canvas reproduction recreates Jatayu Vadh by Raja Ravi Varma. This reproduction follows the 1895 Jatayu Vadham composition associated with Sree Chitra Art Gallery, rather than the later Mysore version. The subject comes from the Ramayana and shows the vulture-king trying to stop Sita’s abduction.
Made to order in oil on canvas. Choose from the available reproduction sizes and framing options. The complete composition is retained, with attention to the relationships between the figures, colour and light.
