Bridgeman arranges the chaos in stages: foreground figures caught mid-fall, a churn of limbs and armour just beyond them, and beyond that the smooth advancing mass of the flood, lit so that its crest seems almost solid. Colour moves from dull bronze and flesh tones in the figures to cold greens and greys in the water, and that shift alone tells the eye where the danger lives.
Bridgeman handles the whole scene with a controlled hand, keeping his brushwork tight where the story needs clarity and looser where the water dissolves into spray and shadow.
