Seventeen Mile Ride by Franz Bischoff brings the loose, responsive brushwork of the California coast indoors, its cool sea greens set against warm rock in a hand-painted oil reproduction.
Description
Description
Layers of cool blue and green sit against warm ochre and rust in loaded, visible strokes, the paint applied wet and direct so that the edges between sea, rock, and sky stay soft where the light dissolves them and sharpen where a headland cuts against open water. This is how Franz Bischoff builds Seventeen Mile Ride, a coastal scene that takes its name from the celebrated drive along the California shoreline where cypress and cliff meet the Pacific in a long, unfolding line.
About Seventeen Mile Ride
The composition reads as a panorama, the eye led along a path defined by rock formations and the changing temper of the water rather than by a single fixed point of interest. Bischoff, better known during much of his career for close studies of roses and other floral still life, brings that same sensitivity to color harmony out into open landscape here, setting the coolness of the ocean against sun-warmed stone with a confidence that suggests a painter working at ease in a new register. The brushwork stays loose and responsive throughout, built up rather than blended smooth, so the surface itself carries the movement of tide and cloud.
ByMuseum recreates this composition as a hand-painted oil painting reproduction, worked in oil on artist-grade canvas by a professional artist trained in traditional technique, matching the palette Bischoff developed for this shoreline and preserving the ridges of impasto and the open, gestural handling of the brush. Nothing here is printed; every plane of color is laid down by hand, so the canvas holds the same depth and surface texture as a painting made stroke by stroke.
The hand-painted reproduction
Lived with over time, the painting rewards a second and third look: a passage of green that seemed uniform at first resolves into three or four distinct strokes, a patch of sky shifts in tone as the light in the room changes through the day. What follows is what arrives with each reproduction:
- Hand-painted oil on canvas, not a printed reproduction
- Available in multiple sizes to suit your wall
- Gallery-ready presentation, ready to hang
- Certificate of authenticity included
- 90 day returns with a full refund or a free replacement, no restocking fee
