About Taking the Lifeboat Through the Dunes
Michael Peter Ancher built his reputation on exactly this kind of witnessed labour. Painted in the milieu of the Skagen artists on the northern tip of Jutland, the work belongs to a body of pictures that turned away from academic subjects and toward the fishermen and rescue crews who worked the coast in all weather.
