About Woodland Scene with Deer
The composition works through repetition: trunks rise in a loose vertical rhythm, their bark rough with grey and brown, while the canopy above spreads out in a horizontal ceiling of leaves. Between them the deer stand or move with quiet attention, not posed for the viewer but caught mid-thought, ears turned, weight shifted onto one leg. Aagard places them low in the frame so the forest keeps its scale and they keep theirs, neither dominating the other.
