Description
A woman holds a sleeping child and presents a document to a red-coated guard. Her injured husband leans against her, and a dog presses into the reunion. Saturated blue, red and tartan clothing bring the tightly grouped figures forward from the dark interior.
This hand-painted oil-on-canvas reproduction recreates The Order of Release, 1746 by John Everett Millais. Painted in 1852–1853, the scene looks back to the aftermath of the Jacobite rising of 1745. The paper that permits the prisoner to leave is small, but it gives purpose to every gesture around it.
Made to order in oil on canvas. Choose from the available reproduction sizes and framing options. The complete composition is retained, with attention to the relationships between the figures, colour and light.
