Description
Three figures rise through a black sky, their pointed caps meeting like flames as they hold a nude body between them. Far below, one man covers his ears, another runs beneath a white cloth, and a donkey looks out from the darkness. This Witches’ Flight reproduction preserves the abrupt light, deep shadows, and unsettling stillness of Francisco de Goya’s original.
About the Witches’ Flight painting
Francisco de Goya painted Witches’ Flight around 1798. It belonged to a group of six small witchcraft paintings made for the Duke and Duchess of Osuna’s country house at La Alameda. Goya suspends the central group against an almost empty night, making the figures appear both theatrical and frighteningly real. Their tall caps, the protective gesture below, and the half-seen donkey connect the scene with the superstition and folly that Goya also examined in his Caprichos.
The original is an oil painting on canvas measuring 43.5 by 30.5 centimetres and is displayed at the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid.
The hand-painted reproduction
ByMuseum artists recreate this composition by hand in oil on canvas. The layered paint preserves the warm flesh tones against the dense black ground, the broken colour of the garments, and the small flashes of light that bring the figures forward. Each reproduction is painted to order and checked before shipping.
